I am a care giver for Ens. Robert R. Barnes and just today he was telling about a training mission in CA where Lt. Comdr.Wallace died when his plane spiraled out of control then I get on this site and read about that very day. He served on the Belleau Wood as a F6F Hellcat Pilot and will be 93 years old in May this amazing man remembers everything about his time in the Pacific!

For my county, I am researching a book and monument to honor our men who died in World War II. One is LTJG Tyson Hardy Mewborn, USNR, about whom we know very little. His daughter says that he was a fighter pilot who flew the Hellcat, and she thinks that he served on BELLEAU WOOD and carrier FRANKLIN. After the war ended, he was ferrying planes to the West Coast, and was killed when the Army transport plane in which he was a passenger crashed near Page, Oklahoma, in October 1945. I am seeking any and all information about LT Mewborn. Thank you very much.

My father Lawrence Anthony Colburn "Pat" was an Ensign boarding the Cabot in California in 1945. He flew the F6F under the call name "Rodeo Roy". I have photo's of his bombing run on Wake island along with his flight log. He has since passed but in the last few years of his life I questioned him on a couple of occasions about his experiences. He told me of a story in which his group buzzed a field in China where the Japanese were threating prisoners about to be released. The intimidation worked and the prisoners were released unharmed. I have the VF 31 insignia, it's a Mexican cowboy riding the wings of a diving F6F with six guns drawn and firing.

Dad was a member of VF-31, Tomcatters. Aboard the USS Ticonderoga. I remember he gave me a ball cap that had the VF-31 patch on it. Dad passed away February this year. He served 33 years USN. He retired AFCM from Ellyson Field in Pensacola. I'm looking for a patch of VF-31. Does anyone know where I can find one?
